Step 1: Installing from a disc
Take your CD and place into your drive on the computer.

Click on START>>>COMPUTER>>>Then double click the drive letter that has the disc in it, it should say something like: '(D): Bird Tick List'

This then opens the contents of the disc for exploring.

NOTE: On some machines after placing the disc into the drive an AUTOPLAY dialog box will appear, click on 'OPEN FOLDER TO VIEW FILES'
Lets look in detail: Installing SQL Server:

SQL server is one of the most advanced database programs available, it is a very dynamic program which will adjust installation to suite your machine, as a result installation will vary from machine to machine, however the golden rule is to accept all defaults and click YES if asked any questions. SQL server is produced by Microsoft not tick list software, for further information you can consult the Microsoft website.

1 Double click the SQLEXPR_ADV file.
2 The program will begin extracting to your drive.
3 An 'END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT' will appear check the box at the bottom left by clicking it, then click NEXT.
4 An 'INSTALING PREREQUISITES' box will appear whilst the program works out what needs to be installed on your machine. Click NEXT.
5 A 'WELCOME TO MICROSOFT SQL SERVER INSTALLATION WIZARD' box will appear. Click NEXT
6 A 'SYSTEM CONFIGURATION CHECK' box appears. This box lists all of the components that the program needs to install, look down the list using the sliding bar on the right of the text box. Look for any errors or warnings, if there are any errors or warnings, click the MESSAGES link and make a note of the message (this may be important if you have a problem with BTL later). Most installations have some warning messages but do not worry, SQL is a very complex program and BTL only uses some of the more common features. Now go ahead and click NEXT.
7 A 'REGISTRATION INFORMATION' box will appear, click NEXT after entering your name.
8 A 'FEATURE SELECTION' box will appear, do not alter anything on this box, it is for advanced users only. Click NEXT.
9 An 'AUTHENTICATION MODE' box will appear, again do nothing just click NEXT.
10 A 'CONFIGURATION OPTIONS' box will appear, do nothing and click NEXT.
11 An 'ERROR AND USAGE REPORT SETTINGS' box will appear, again just click NEXT.
12 A 'READY TO INSTALL' box will appear, the text box should have 'SQL SERVER DATABASE SERVICES' on the list, click INSTALL.
13 A 'SETUP PROGRESS' box will appear, sit back and wait until the NEXT button becomes available the click it.
14 A 'COMPLETING MICROSOFT SQL SERVER 2005 SETUP' box will appear, now click FINISH

As said previously you may find your installation has some different boxes appear, just accept the default options and let the program make the decisions. If you get any messages about incompatibility and should installation continue click YES, however do not ask SQL server to look on line for fixes, this causes some problems. The incompatibilities that exist will not affect your installation.
Step 3: Installing from a disc

Now double click the
dotnetfx3 file and install the .Net Framework (Note if you are running Vista or Windows 7 you will not need to run this file)
Once you have successfully installed dotnetfx3 you can then double click SQLEXPR_ADV, this installs SQL Server. Please accept all default settings, click YES if asked any questions. If you receive any messages mentioning incompatibilities, please ignore and continue.
Step 4: Installing from a disc
Now double click the Setup file, Bird Tick List will begin to install, please accept the default settings and the program will be installed within a few moments.

1.The ‘License Agreement’ box appears, read and accept the license if you agree, click ‘next’.
2.The ‘Select Installation Folder’ box appears. Do not change anything just click ‘Next’.
3.The ‘Confirm Installation’ box appears, click ‘Next’. The program begins to install.
4.The ‘Installation Complete’ window appears, click ‘Close’.

Bird Tick List should now be installed. You can run the program by finding the icon on your computer desktop and double clicking it.

Step 1: Installing from a download (downloading the files)

When you finish paying for Bird Tick List you will be directed to a download page, sometimes buyers miss this link and do not find the download page. This should not be a problem as Tick List Software also automatically emails the download link to the email address that you used to purchase the program with. Either way by clicking on this link you will find yourself on a web page titled 'PLEASE FIND YOUR LINK BELOW'. On this page, in the centre, in a blue box is a link 'DOWNLOAD BIRD TICK LIST' you need to click this link to download the setup files.

When you click the link a box will appear, the details of this box will vary depending on which web browser you use, we detail below the two most common web browsers:

Firefox web browser:
The box will have two check box options, one option says 'OPEN WITH' the other option says 'SAVE FILE'. Make sure the 'SAVE FILE' option is checked and click OK.
When the file has finished downloading which may take anything from 10 seconds to an hour depending on your internet connection, a 'DOWNLOADS' box will appear with the Bird Tick List folder you have downloaded highlighted on the list. Right click the highlighted folder and choose OPEN from the menu.

The Bird Tick List Folder then appears in windows explorer, now double click the folder, this will open the folder and display the files you will use to install Bird Tick List. Now go to Step 2.

Internet Explorer: The box will have 3 buttons, OPEN, SAVE and CANCEL, click on SAVE. The next box asks where you want the file to be copied to, click the button at the bottom left BROWSE FOLDERS, the box changes, now click DESKTOP in the list of folders on the left hand side of the box. Once you have selected DESKTOP click SAVE on the bottom right of the box. The setup files will now download to your desktop this may take anything from 10 seconds to an hour depending on your internet connection. When the download finishes a 'DOWNLOAD COMPLETE' box will appear, click the OPEN button. This will open the folder showing all of the setup files. Now go to Step 2.

NOTE:The desktop is the main screen on your computer which shows all your program and folder icons when the computer first starts up. It does not actually matter where you choose to download the files to as long as you can find them afterwards!

NOTE: Windows Vista and Windows 7 come with standard 'unzipping' software which extracts the compressed files in the Bird Tick List download. If the machine you are using has third party unzipping software the process above may be slightly different or in the worst case you may get a message saying the file is not valid. You will need to resolve this by consulting your unzipping software help files.
Step 2: Installing from a download (installing Bird Tick List)

Having followed step1 you will be looking at a windows explorer box with either just the downloaded folder showing or 3 to 4 files, if only the folder is showing double click the folder and you will see the 3 to 4 setup files. Double click the SETUP file and the setup program will automatically install all of the files you need. Please be sure to agree to any boxes which ask you questions and choose all of the default options.

3 If SQL Server is not installed on your machine you will be asked if you would like to install it, choose YES. The files will be downloaded from MICROSOFT, you will need to be connected to the internet for this to happen.

16 When SQL Server  has finished installing Bird Tick List will then begin to install.

18 The ‘Select Installation Folder’ box appears. Do not change anything just click ‘Next’.
19 The ‘Confirm Installation’ box appears, click ‘Next’. The program begins to install.
20 The ‘Installation Complete’ window appears, click ‘Close’.

Bird Tick List should now be installed. You can run the program by finding the icon on your computer desktop and double clicking it.

NOTE: If you are installing Bird Tick List onto the Windows XP operating system the program will also need to install the .Net Framework, this happens automatically as long as you agree when asked.
