Main screen features.
The main screen is where you add, review and browse your records. The interface is designed to be easy to use and most of all fast, once you have your location database and World Bird database set up it takes seconds to add a comprehensive record including maps, images, and bird song.

Repeat fill.
If you are adding more than one record repeat fill will copy ‘common’ details to the next record to save having to enter data repeatedly.

Edit drop lists.
Most of the text boxes use ‘droplists’ that contain common entries to save you time and keep data input consistent, these lists are user editable.

Properties.
Bird tick list has user definable properties, change text size, colour of boxes and backgrounds as well hiding the image boxes and placing your name on the main form. Also in properties there are input fields that are user definable.

Backup and reinstall.
Bird tick list prepares your database for back up, identifies your drives and saves your databases, droplists and media to a drive of your choice. Reinstalling the back up is similarly straightforward.

Import from Excel.
Import your records from other programs via Excel. Fields are mapped so data is placed into the correct categories.

Reports.
This is the heart of the reason for inputting your sightings. There are over 12 reports at present and we add more on a regular basis. All reports are exportable to PDF and Excel. With the built in link to Adobe file share you can publish your reports online or embed them in web pages and Bloggs.
Reports currently include various life lists, location reports, BTO tetrad report, user report, county recorders report, day view report and many more. If you have a good idea for a report we will produce it for you, free of charge!

Statistics.
‘My Statistics Centre’ mathematically analyses your bird sightings, how many birds have your seen? How many personal firsts? Most data is presented in chart form, which is exportable to Excel and PDF.

Add images.
You can add two images to every record, these can be from any source.

Get image button.
When in a record you can click on this button and Bird Tick List will automatically search the Internet using Google image search to find an image for your record, with two clicks the image is copied to your record.

Record filter.
When you build up a large number of records you may want to filter what records you want to view, Bird Tick List has the following filters; By date, location, bird, notes, from date to date, by family, personal firsts, user, tetrad, first sighting.
There is also various other filters for creating specific reports.

Multimedia.
You can attach bird song to your record, either your own recording or one you have purchased. As with sound files you can also add video to your record.

Browse day function.
Browse through your records, viewing images and details of your birding trips.

View particular day.
View a summary of the birds recorded on a specific day.

List View.
If you like data, this is the view for you! All data shown as a list with movable headers and sort-able lists.

Identify bird with the RSPB.
Use the drop box on the menu bar to select a bird, Bird Tick List then connects to the RSPB site and loads identification details for that bird, including bird song and identification details.

Multiple users.
You can save your records to a user name and produce reports for that user. There is no limit to the number of users you can have on the user list.

User defined fields.
We try to think of everything but most users have something unique they want to record, for this reason there are 3 user defined text boxes on every record, you can label these as anything you want.

Slideshow.
View the images attached to your records as a slideshow.

Add photographic details to images.
If you click on an image in your record a second window appears with text boxes to allow you to enter photographic details, conditions and more.

The World bird database.
This is a huge database attached to Bird Tick List, which contains every known bird in the world (nearly 11,000!). Fortunately it comes with various filters and search functions to help you find the bird you are looking for quickly. World Bird is totally editable so you can alter or add records.

List view.
You can view the World Bird database as a list of data.

Record view.
This is the view that you would usually use, it shows one bird at a time with the following information; Common name, Scientific name, Breeding range, Order/family (with editable drop list), Notes.
As with the main screen you can add two images to each record.
(Note most fields come blank and you need to add information to them yourself)

Filter function.
Allows filtering of the database by name, family, breeding range

Filter EU birds.
You can set a default in properties, which automatically filters out all birds except European birds, so if you only bird watch in the UK this is a setting you would usually use.

Quick search.
Type in any part of the birds name and the database will automatically locate matches for you, for example type zz and all buzzards will be listed, it takes less than a second to search 11,000 records!

Use this bird button.
This is a great time saver; if you click this button all of the birds details are copied to the record you are entering, this means you will never have to type the same thing twice! The images are also copied over if you tick the check box or set this as a default in properties.

Identify North American birds.
If you have a North American bird on the current screen you can click on this button, which connects to Cornell labs site and loads the bird details for you.

The Location database.
This is the database where you enter the places you go bird watching; you only have to enter a location once as you can link it to any record with the click of a button. You can enter a host of information including; Name, County, Habitat, Tetrad, Grid Ref, BTO tetrad, and longitude/latitude.

Mapping.
You can add a map of the location with an arrow showing where you identified the bird, you can move this arrow for each bird you have seen. Bird Tick List automatically loads the map based on the location details you have entered.

Favourites.
You can add your locations to a favourites menu so you can quickly locate it when adding a record.

Quick search for location.
If you do not have a location saved in favourites you can use this function to find any location fast.

Use this location button.
As with the World Bird database you can use this button to copy over the location details into your current record; 1 click copies over map and location details.
